Our Theatre, Film, and Media Production Courses

Theatre Arts: Film Study (09-12) ½ cr. Fine Arts (CCHE)

Students investigate how and what ideas, values, and concepts are connected through film. In analyzing film, the students examine elements of plot, setting, style, and point of view. Class activities include viewing, listening, researching, and analyzing film, reliable computer access is recommended for online tests. This course will help students become successful in Media productions. District film policy requires parental permission before students can participate in the classroom viewing.

 

Literature to Film & Composition (10-12) ½ cr. English (CCHE)

This is a film study course with a focus on literature and composition, where students are allowed to explore literature and the direct ties it has to films. Students will read two required novels in the course and additional novels of choice are available for extra credit. This is an exciting course meant to open up the world of film literature and composition to the film buff and help students truly understand the connection, between a great story and a great film. Internet access recommended for online tests. District film policy requires parental permission before students can participate in the classroom viewing.

 

Theatre Arts I: Literature and Composition (9-12) ½ cr. English (CCHE)

This course allows students to explore dramatic literature from the past to the present and learn the steps involved to writing dramatic literature through experience. Theatrical literature is the foundation of cultural awareness through the arts and a record of the society in which we live. This course allows students to experiment with numerous styles of theatrical writing and to test out situational scenes that they compose. This is an exciting, hands-on course, which allows students to elaborate on their performing arts skills and play analysis through dramatic literature and composition.

 

Theatre Arts II: Performance (9-12) ½ cr. Fine Arts (CCHE)

This course offers students a practical approach to the fundamental skills of performing arts. Students receive training in theatrical tools including interpretation and scene development. Class activities include learning basic skills necessary for theatrical productions, reading and analyzing plays and evaluating performances. This course is a participatory course and grading is relative to the student's daily involvement.

 

Theatre Arts III: Advanced Performance (10-12) ½ cr. Fine Arts (CCHE)

Advanced performance is a course designed for the well-rounded Fine Arts student. This course encompasses all areas of production. Students will work on the physical and conceptual aspects of play production. Completion of the course will include a performance, performed and directed by students as exhibition pieces. Areas of study will include play writing, directing, analysis and design, sets, lights and sound, costumes, make-up and props.

 

Theatre Arts: Media Production (9-12) ½ cr. English (CCHE)

Students in this course produce several video productions and broadcasts using the Digital Video Format. Class activities include; planning broadcasts, gathering information for productions, interviewing, and writing scripts, filming, producing effective character generation, designing layouts, and producing a final product by broadcast deadlines. The skills learned in Film Study will help students achieve success in this class.
